Mon plus beau jour has many years' experience planning very special weddings, years that today translate as unparalleled experience. Numerous celebrities have entrusted them with their most beautiful day... won't you?
Séverine Perbost, Mon Plus Beau Jour's interior decorator, will transform your wedding location into a little corner of heaven. She will give you tips and advice on how to send family and friends into rapture, and make your wedding a unique, magical day - without it seeming in the slightest bit forced.
First Meeting
Séverine Perbost was trained as a landscape architect and architect, which gives her a very unique approach to interior decoration. In order to create a bewitching atmosphere, she always begins her conceptual process by allowing herself to be inspired by the general feel of the room the couple has chosen. It's an approach that allows her to work with the original setting, rather than in spite of it. Her first meeting with the couple (and Mon Plus Beau Jour's managing director, Dorothée Gruman), takes place onsite, so they can tour the space together and exchange ideas. "After showing them photos of what we've done before, I try to work out their personalities and desires. As far as possible, anyway, because they might not always agree, and the stress of the preparations and pressure from their families can get pretty intense. They need to be told to relax, to be reassured. My work starts there, because it's important that we all trust one another so that we can work well together." Then they review the whole space, the furniture, what is available and what needs to be rented. And then they define a theme together, something that comes from an element of the original space. "Then I work on the ideas we've agreed upon. I give them a sketch and a very detailed dossier detailing all their choices, the floral varieties, etc., with very precise explanations."
Decoration in Harmony with the Seasons
Séverine and her assistant Stéphanie are there to create the most fantastic ambiance for couples who've chosen Mon Plus Beau Jour as their wedding planner. "I always advise couples to dare to try the effect, the unexpectedness, of colour. Some are audacious enough, others would like to be, but quickly come back to a kind of classicism. It's a shame." This year, pink and violet are in fashion, and will be for the rest of the summer. "For flowers, we work with very prestigious small growers from the Ile-de-France and Midi regions of France, and from Italy. Winter is a gorgeous season, perfect for weddings. I like working with warm colours, like orange or ochre, creating a very festive ambiance. Generally speaking, colours and the rest should depend on the season, and not the other way round," explains Séverine. "Back to what's in right now: in May and June, lots of couples asked me to decorate the buffets and tables with violet roses. But the problem s that they're only in season for a very short period of time. Only those couples getting married at the end of May could have them."
Centrepieces and Chic Decor
When it comes to centrepieces, Séverine likes to dissuade the use of oversized bouquets and arrangements. "First of all, people won't be able to see the table; that's a shame. And even if you've chosen a room with a high ceiling, you don't have to play to it. I would rather create an atmosphere of transparency." For round tables, vases and candles create the perfect effect: light, minimalist, pretty and romantic, matched with the glassware. Putting clusters of candles together in the centre makes tables look chic, whether or not you also have seasonal flowers. "Personally, I'm a big fan of long tables. Recently, Mon Plus Beau Jour decorated a 30m table. We created an effect with small decorative objects and glassware placed unevenly all along the table. It's always important to create a link between objects." Séverine also recommends that clients know what is in the limits of elegance, and to avoid bad taste and overly "ostentatious" décor, for fear of spoiling the desired effect. According to her, a coloured ribbon placed on a napkin can make a table look alluring. A coloured runner, a bouquet of seasonal leaves, hornbeam or beech with some greenery, all these are little decorative touches that can be added on a case-by-case basis. "I also advocate the exotic," she says, "which can be lovely as long as it goes with the location and doesn't create combinations that should never have been."
